Evaluating and comparing
Buyer's guide: how to evaluate an enterprise insights platform
Ten questions that separate demos from decisions.
Short answer
Evaluate an enterprise insights platform on what it does before the first question is asked, how it knows what your data means, whether it validates its own findings, how much of its method it shows, and where it runs. A good demo answers questions. A good platform earns trust.
Key takeaways
- Ask where the platform starts: your question, or your business direction.
- Ask how it matches records across systems, and whether every finding traces to source records.
- Ask what you can show your board, and where your data goes.
The ten questions
- What does it start from? A known report, a prompt, or a business direction? Tools that start from a prompt depend on you knowing what to ask.
- How does it learn what our data means? Look for a process that works from your data and your identifiers, not only from field names.
- How does it match records across systems? Ask whether it resolves the same customer or account using shared keys and identifiers, and what it does when keys are inconsistent.
- Does it work across systems? The patterns that matter often sit between CRM, billing, finance, and ERP.
- Does it validate its own findings? Ask what happens to a finding that cannot be verified. It should not reach you.
- Can we trace it? Each finding should come with evidence, a confidence level, and what the data could not support.
- How are data gaps handled? They should be shown with the finding, not hidden.
- Where does it run, and does our data leave? Ask about deployment (VPC, on-premises, or vendor cloud) and whether an external model is called.
- Who decides and acts? Be clear whether the platform recommends or executes, and who is accountable.
- How do we start, and what do we have at the end? A scoped starting point with defined outputs is easier to judge than an open-ended rollout.
A simple scorecard
Score each platform 0 (no), 1 (partly), 2 (yes) on every question, and compare totals. Weight the questions your risk team cares about most, usually 8, 6 and 7.
How NexDiscovery answers
- A business direction.
- It connects read-only to the systems you choose and learns your approved data.
- It resolves the same real-world entity using shared keys, account identifiers, customer numbers, domains, and tax or registration IDs, with fuzzy matching where keys are inconsistent.
- Yes, it searches across the systems you already run.
- Yes. Every finding is validated against the underlying records and scored for confidence. Findings you can verify independently are the only ones that ship.
- Yes. Each Action Pack includes evidence, a confidence level, and data gaps.
- Data gaps are shown with the finding.
- Inside your VPC or on-premises with read-only access. Nothing leaves, and no external model is called.
- NexDiscovery recommends. You decide and execute.
- A 30-Day Discovery Sprint, scoped in a Scoping Call.
How to run the evaluation
Insist on your own data in the trial. A demo on sample data shows how a tool looks, not how it handles your systems.
